On April 26, Junior League members and their friends enjoyed an evening of shopping and socializing at Tory Burch in the Stanford Shopping Center. Among those in attendance were current League President Meaux Costello and incoming League President Rahela Abbas. Tory Burch donated 10% of all sales to the endowment fund, along with a 10% discount to shoppers.

Throughout the evening guests nibbled hors d’oeuvres and sipped champagne in the intimate comfort of the Tory Burch store. Much of the conversation centered on the stunning and unique apparel that fills the store’s hangers. Yet most attendees ultimately gravitated toward the accessories that feature the trademark Tory Burch T medallion. This savvy shopper was delighted to find a simple black leather wallet with a bright cobalt interior. Look for me at the next general meeting – I’ll gladly be buying drinks so that I can pull out my new wallet to pay.

Endowment Fund Board Hosts Donor Recognition Event

By Bonnie Smyth, Endowment Fund Board

Over thirty League members and guests attended the Major Donor Recognition Event hosted by the Endowment Fund Board Thursday afternoon. It was a fun, sunny afternoon where Endowment Fund donors reconnected with long-time friends and made new friendships. Past JLPA•MP President and Endowment Fund Chair, Katrina Wollenberg visited from Texas especially to attend. The event took place at the beautiful home of Endowment Fund Board member emeritus, Kathy Ladra.

Susan Ford Dorsey, President of the Sand Hill Foundation, was the speaker for the event. Susan shared her touching personal story about why she made her $100,000 challenge match during the Endowment Fund campaign. It was very moving to hear that it was the friends she made in the League and the work she did on the League's Court Appointed Special Advocates (“CASA”) project that changed her life. Her League volunteer work and friendships helped to propel her to become one of our community's most generous philanthropists. Today, Susan’s Foundation invests in leaders and organizations that demonstrate clarity of purpose and a deep desire for lasting transformation.

Hors d’oeuvres for the event were based on recipes provided by Jane Stocklin and made by Endowment Fund Board members. Martha Edwards brought her signature chocolate chip cookies. Former Endowment Fund Board member, Margaret London, generously donated wine for the event.

The Endowment Fund Major Donor Recognition Event is held annually and honors our most charitable and consistent donors and our Legacy Leaders (those who have named the JLPA-MP Endowment Fund in their estate plans).

RECAP: January 18 GMM

By Amy Truel, Communications Team

Did you miss the January 18 General Membership Meeting? Find out what was discussed and presented.

A moving and informative presentation from Karae Lisle (shown right), Executive Director of Shelter Network.

Kathleen Castaillac and Helen Ungerman, Home Tour Co-Chairs, provided a witty and memorable homage to the behind-the-scenes Home Tour preparation. How those ladies could accomplish so much, putting on an amazing Home Tour while chronicling their adventures and maintaining a sense of humor is beyond me. Once again, Thank you Home Tour Team-we are blown away!

Bena Vohra (shown left), Junior SPAC Delegate, invited us to submit our ideas for "There Oughta Be A Law...". This is a  great opportunity for League members to make a difference! Think about laws you would like to see enacted, and submit your ideas to SPAC by March 2.

Sally Falkenhagen (shown right), Endowment Fund Chair, spoke about the history and performance of the League Endowment Fund. It was very inspiring to see how the idea was formed back in 1992, launched in 1994 and has grown into a substantial amount, ensuring continued League support for our community. Tara Roussel, Nominating Chair, introduced us to our stellar proposed 2012-13 Board of Directors (shown left).

Jan Hickman, Shop Committee Chair, emceed a great fashion show featuring items available at The Shop. Not just clothes either; we were treated to ladies strutting their stuff carrying artwork, tables, and yes, Brooke Lopez did wear a lampshade (shown right)!
